Share
How long is a saree? A standard saree is about 5.5 to 6 metres long (550 to 600 cm, or 6 to 6.5 yards) and about 1.1 to 1.2 metres wide (43 to 47 inches). Some regional styles, such as the nauvari, run up to 9 yards.
Standard saree size: length and width
| Measure | Standard saree |
|---|---|
| Length | 5.5 to 6 m (550 to 600 cm) = 6 to 6.5 yards = about 18 to 20 feet |
| Width | 1.1 to 1.2 m (110 to 120 cm) = 43 to 47 inches |
| Nauvari (Maharashtrian) | About 9 yards |
Why saree length matters
A traditional saree needs enough fabric to wrap the waist, form pleats and drape over the shoulder. Wearing a longer saree takes more practice and more pins. This is why many women now choose a pre-draped saree.
How is a pre-draped saree different?
A pre-draped saree has its pleats and pallu stitched in place, so it goes on like a skirt in minutes. You do not pick a length in metres. You pick Short or Tall by your height.
Rebel Roots saree length: Short or Tall

- Tall: 5'5" (165 cm) and above.
