Saree and Fit FAQ
Quick answers to the questions we hear most about Rebel Roots and pre-draped sarees.
About sarees
What is a saree?
A saree (also spelled sari) is a long piece of fabric, traditionally about 5.5 to 6 metres, draped around the body. It is one of the most recognised garments in South Asia.
What is a pre-draped saree?
A pre-draped saree (also called a pre-stitched or ready-to-wear saree) has its pleats and pallu stitched in place, so it goes on like a skirt in minutes with no pleating or draping skills needed.
What is the difference between a pre-draped and a traditional saree?
A traditional saree is draped by hand each time. A pre-draped saree is stitched into shape for you, so you step into it and fasten it.
Do I need a petticoat with a Rebel Roots saree?
No. Our ready-to-wear sarees are lined and pre-draped, so no petticoat is needed.
Sizing and fit
How do I choose between Short and Tall?
Short is for 5'4" (162 cm) and below. Tall is for 5'5" (165 cm) and above. If you are in-between sizes and plan to wear high heels, choose Tall.
What sizes do you offer?
Capsule and Buckle styles run XS to 2X. Forest Floor styles run XXS to 2X. See the size chart.
How long is a standard saree?
About 5.5 to 6 metres (550 to 600 cm) long and 1.1 to 1.2 metres wide. Pre-draped sarees are chosen by height, not by metres.
